30 while I’m 30

Last year I did “29 while I’m 29” and before that “golden 28“. And this year it’s another list. Now that I’m 30 I thought it was time. And I’m doing a “30 while I’m 30″ list this year (original, no? ;) ).

1 || Learn to play tennis. Or learn enough to decide if I want to learn how to play.

2 || Put a firepit in our back yard. Either build or buy, not sure. I want to take advantage of the yard more often.

3 || Learn to crochet & make a ripple blanket. I’m giving up the learn to crochet item for awhile. I have enough of a list of “want to knit” items that I don’t need to add to it. this feels good.

4 || Knit myself a sweater that I like. Also not happening at this point in my life.

5 || Cut into the liberty fabric I bought in new york and make something for someone.

6 || Still have “run a 5k” on my list. Finally did this!

7 || Take a drawing class. I feel so silly saying this but we can’t find the time & money to make this happen. I thought about doing it last fall at the local University but I was still nursing Ada before bed so a night class was out. Obviously a daytime class is out. There will be a time for this in the future, of this I am sure.

8 || Make lemon curd.

9 || Schedule date night every week with the husband. Take turns in planning it. Have a date outside the home once a month, otherwise have a date at home and eat dinner after the girls are in bed. The main theme here: connection! It’s easy to get caught up in the “she needs a bath, she needs her medicine. have you done x,y,z?” routine discussions around here. This was not done by the exacting standards I set for myself here. We did have more dates outside of the home though. We really could do a better job about having dates at home but I think every week makes it too stressful. Maybe we can each plan one a month.

10 || Pick strawberries.

11 || Grow a better garden. This will involve moving the square foot gardening raised beds to somewhere that actually receives some sunlight. I am determined to grow some of our food. It still kind of sucked but we did get a handful of tomatoes and jalapenos.

12 || Find a way to go for bike rides as a family of 5. Either get Cora a tag-along or get a baby seat for Ada. She should be old enough sometime this summer.

13 || Go camping (at least) two times. In a tent. With a baby who didn’t sleep well (ears! teeth! whatever!) we didn’t make it camping at all. I plan to change this for this coming summer…..

14 || Make it to the farmer’s market (and even better if we ride our bikes) at least 5 times. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. We went twice.

15 || Make my own (homemade, natural) cleaners.

I made my own laundry detergent. I can’t give up the bleach in the bathrooms. They just don’t feel clean without it

16 || Go swim laps. We have a pool less than a mile from our house that offers drop-in rates to swim. I used to love swimming as a child but haven’t done it for ages.

17 || Cut my hair to look a bit more like an adult and a bit less like a teenager with overgrown messy hair.

18 || Take down our fence (that is falling down) and build something like this for the girls. Did not build anything for the girls but did donate the fence to someone who uses it for projects. And we have a new fence.

19 || Take my first baby girl to kindergarten in the fall. Bonus points if I don’t cry in front of her. I didn’t cry in front of her! She has loved (!!) kindergarten, what a great transition.

20 || Listen to live jazz music. Bonus points if it is in a dive bar.

21 || Paint the kitchen.

22 || Organize the adult books in the house. Get them all in one place, sell the books we don’t want and don’t buy any more until we’ve finished the books we haven’t read yet.

23 || Organize the childrens books. Get them all in one place (they are everywhere) and take out seasonal/holiday books to be brought out when appropriate. And decide on a number of books that we will have out at a time.
done & took a box to goodwill. put most of the books up high & will rotate books in/out.

24 || Visit a farm and inquire about raw milk & buying eggs. done & started a milk co-op so we can share driving.

25 || Do something to take care of the high radon levels we found in our house.  We don’t spend much time in the basement so this has been put off for now.

26 || Be able to do 25 real push-ups.

27 || Have a first birthday “party” for Ada. And by party I mean a celebration, immediate family only probably. But I want to celebrate this sweet girl!

28 || Move the television to the basement. I don’t think the husband will ever let this happen……

29 || Go snowshoeing. This would require purchasing snow shoes. I want to do this still but they were more expensive than I thought they would be.

30 || Find a new dentist and get my teeth taken care of and my dental health in better shape.

    Happy Birthday! What a great list. I’d love to get to a jazz bar with you if you’d be up for company. And, for the record, I think your hair looks great the way it is! Have a wonderful birthday!

    Happy Birthday Sister!!! :) I love your list! I will kid-sit for any night that you need, just let me know!!! And, for the record, I *love* your hair and wish I had it!

  4. Love the list! You put some great things in there. I love how you really thought about things you wanted to do but also things that involve the family. I should get started on a list for myself! Maybe I could finish it by September :0 hah good luck!

  5. Happy Birthday! Can you believe that we are 30 this year. That means we have been friends for over 25 years…wow!! So how did the dairy trail go for Ada? I hope good. I like your list. I ran my first 5K this last weekend. For someone that really thought they did not like to run, it was pretty fun. I moved to long jump in high school so I did not have to run as much. I am planning on signing up for another 5K in 3 weeks. I would like to get my self up to a 10k some time this year. I started the running as way to loose weight and get into shape.
